Knot Tying - Stage 3 - Know how to care for rope

VIDEO for Stage 3

The following information is taken from the AY Honor for Knot Typing in the Seventh Day Adventist Pathfinder guidelines for this honor. The information is what they suggest to follow while learning the knots. I Mr. D will be adding additional helps to the guidelines that need to be done to meet the requirements of this honor.

Keep the rope clean.

Shake off loose dirt: Before washing, shake out dust and debris from the rope by snapping it or running it through your hands.

Use lukewarm water: Fill a tub or bucket with lukewarm water. Avoid hot water as it can weaken synthetic fibers.
Mild soap or rope cleaner: Use a mild soap (like dish soap) or a rope-specific cleaner. Harsh detergents can break down fibers over time.

Hand wash or use a rope washer: Gently agitate the rope in the water. You can also use a rope brush or a purpose-built rope washer to remove deep-set dirt.

Rinse thoroughly: Rinse the rope multiple times with clean water to remove all soap residue.

Keep the rope dry.

Air dry in shade: Lay the rope out loosely in a shaded, well-ventilated area. Avoid direct sunlight, as UV rays can degrade fibers over time.

Store properly: Keep ropes dry, away from moisture, and store them in a cool, dry place. Avoid prolonged UV exposure and direct sunlight.

Make sure wet rope is dry before coiling it.

Coil rope before storing.

Always coil a rope before storing it.

By following these steps, you can maintain the integrity and performance of your rope, ensuring it remains safe and reliable.

Return rope to its proper place after using it.

Please listen to the Video for the needed information for the steps to follow.
