Stage 1 : Write or explain orally the different types and uses of pottery and the materials used in making it.

The Britannica Encyclopedia is a wealth of information on what pottery is, what takes to create it, and many other interesting facts about it.

Stage 2 : What is the purpose of a glaze? Describe the specific dangers to be avoided.

In stage 2 we discuss how glasze can be used when creating pottery and the dangers that go with it. Example websites share additional information about use of glaze and what to watch for.

Make sure you understand and know what you should be careful with when you create your pottery.

Purpose

Glaze is a glassy coating which is fired to make it fuse to a ceramic object in order to color, decorate, strengthen or waterproof it. Glazing is functionally important for earthenware vessels, which would otherwise be unsuitable for holding liquids due to porosity. Glaze is also used on functional and decorative stoneware and porcelain. In addition to the functional aspect of glazes, aesthetic concerns include a variety of surface finishes, including degrees of gloss and matte, variegation and finished color. Glazes may also enhance an underlying design or texture which may be either the "natural" texture of the clay or an inscribed, carved or painted design.

Dangers

Many of the ceramic glazes contain lead. Because of this, lead-based glaze should not be used on articles intended for use in eating or drinking.

Stage 3 : Design and draw two pottery forms, one of which must be decorated.

Stage 3 shared with you the many different types of decorating tools and how they can be utilized when creating a pottery. The internet provides lots of help in understanding the different forms that can be used to create interesting designs and shapes.

This section will prepare you for what you will need do in Stage 3. Remember you just need to create two types of designs with forms that you may choose to use. Decorate those two designs and share it with the club or instructor.

This section does not state that these designs and styles are to be done with clay or on a piece of paper. This section is design to educate on many different types of tools and styles to be used while creating pottery.
