Disaster Ministry - #2 - How does Disasters Affect us
Stage Two of Disaster Ministry - shares with you various types of disasters that may occur in the world around you. The various disasters will have effect on the surrounding areas that they damage and those areas may be your home or someone you know.
Remember that you should have a notepad or printout of your worksheet. The worksheet is located at the lower part of your Disaster Ministry Screen. If you do not have a printout then take notes so you can put the information needed in the boxes.
Natural disasters come in many forms. In severe cases one disaster causes another disaster. Such as a hurricane causing flooding.
All disasters can potentially lead to:
Loss of access to utilities with resulting discomfort and costs. Other inconveniences may be cell phone reception, internet coverage, and local media.
Loss of access or overloading of emergency services. If the roads are blocked the firefighters may not be able to reach a fire, and the police may be unable to keep order.
Hurricanes
Can cause :
Flooding which may damage buildings, roads, and other infrastructure
Downed trees causing damage to property, loss of power, blocked roads etc.
Breakdown in law and order in severe cases

Tornados
Can cause :
Tornados damage and destroy buildings, trees and sometimes infrastructure like power lines. People and cars may be taken away by a storm

Earthquakes
An earthquake (also known as a tremor or temblor) is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by shaking and sometimes displacing the ground.
Wildfires
Wildfires become a big concern when they get near homes and other structured. People may lose their homes or businesses, but more people will be displaced, needing temporary housing. Smoke may also be a health concern.
Volcanoes
A volcano is an opening, or rupture, in the planet's surface or crust, which allows hot magma, ash and gases to escape from below the surface. Volcanoes are generally found where tectonic plates are diverging or converging.
